New Teacher Induction

Based on the “Beginner Teacher Competencies Rating Scale”. I feel that I am ready as a newly qualified teacher but that I do still have to develop in some of the ways that are mentioned on the rating scale.

The rating scale has shown me some of my strengths in the classroom such as having sound subject knowledge, I know how to teach the subjects and know how to do it at a pace that allows my learners to understand and ask questions when they are not sure. I realize that I have good communication skills and I know how to communicate effectively with my subjects to help with learning. I know that being at this past school how I developed knowledge on their school curriculum and how to set everything out. I was nervous as the school didn’t have a lot of resources like the others but I actually did very well with limited resources and I was able to plan and design suitable learning programmers such as : I created a guessing game using my knowledge on the topic and card board for my one lesson and they loved it. I also feel that I know how to understand diversity in a classroom setting from being in different schools and I was able to identify learners that were battling in the class, which I would try help by giving extra help where it was needed. I was able to manage my learners to make sure I had conducive learning environment for the learners, where I provide the right positive environment for them.

However, I do have some areas on the rating scale that needs to be developed but I know by having more experience that it will start to develop such as the teacher must know her learners, I have battled with this due to having so many learners in one classroom as they all are different and all learn different and to carter to all their needs is a challenge, I am really good with information technology but am still developing in terms of numeracy and literacy and I know this will come with time.

The last one that needs to be developed is the assessment to improve teaching and assess learners in reliable and varied ways, this I still am getting used to and seeing ways that I can improve my teaching to ensure learners all have an understanding.
